Bergamo’s Città Alta stands on a hill above the modern town, ringed by the Venetian walls listed by UNESCO among the Venetian Works of Defence; a funicular climbs from the lower town.
Getting there
By Trenord regional train from Milano Centrale or Porta Garibaldi to Bergamo, then bus and funicular to the Città Alta.
The upper town
The Piazza Vecchia and the Palazzo della Ragione, the Cappella Colleoni and the walls.
Trenord trains run from Milano Centrale and Porta Garibaldi to Bergamo.
Our advice: walk the walls at sunset; the tourism office is at visitbergamo.net.
